Fit for Life (Postnatal Exercise)
Fit for Life is a workshop which guides women back to fitness after having a baby. Suitable for mums anytime after the 6-week check, this workshop aims to help you strengthen your core muscles and flatten your tummy with safe, specialised exercises for the postnatal period taught by a Chartered Physiotherapist.

During pregnancy and labour our muscles and ligaments get stretched and weakened. The baby bump doesn’t go away immediately and sometimes it can even look as if we are still pregnant.
Our bodies have to do a lot of bending and lifting, while we look after the new baby. This can lead to backache and in the worst case scenario we may even find it hard to get around.
Sometimes our pelvic floor muscles are so stretched and weakened that they struggle to fully control the bladder and it can affect our sex life too.
If we have had a Caesarian Section, our recovery will be slower still.
Once our baby has arrived, life is so busy that it can be very difficult to find any time for ourselves. We might even think that this is what life is like now we have children.
Fit for Life is a workshop which guides us back to fitness.
In the workshop we show you how to check the gap between the tummy muscles, so that we can teach you exercises which will help to flatten your tummy.
We show you how to strengthen your back, with easy and fun exercises which you can do on a gym ball. We advise you when you can safely return to other forms of exercise and sport. We teach you pelvic floor exercises.
We give lots of practical tips about looking after your body while you also look after your baby, and we back it all up with a top quality, professionally produced leaflet, which you can take home and keep.
There is plenty of time for you to ask questions at the end of the workshop.
You can attend the workshop any time after your 6 week check.
Sheila Bond, who runs Fit for Life, is an experienced Chartered Physiotherapist with a special interest in helping women to reduce the aches and pains of pregnancy and beyond. She is a member of ‘Pelvic Obstetric and Gynaecological Physiotherapy’ and has done many post-graduate courses in this field.
