Sports & Remedial Massage
Sports & Remedial Massage (SRM) is perfect for endurance athletes as it can reduce lactic acid build up leading to faster recovery post training or competition.
SRM is not only limited to those who compete, but is good for anyone who is looking for soft tissue release to reduce muscle pain and tightness – perhaps from bad posture at work. It’s also great for pregnant and new mums.
How does Sports & Remedial Massage work?
Sports & Remedial Massage is designed to break down adhesions (knots in the muscles) and increase range of motion at joints. SRM can result in instant increases in muscle length and has been found to improve circulation enabling muscles to receive more oxygen and nutrients. SRM improves drainage of the lymphatic system preventing the buildup of waste products in the muscles and improving post workout recovery.
What happens in a session?
An initial consultation will take place to highlight medical conditions, problematic areas and specific muscle tightness through a variety of musculoskeletal tests. After this the therapist will leave the room in order for you to remove any necessary clothing (except underwear) and make yourself comfortable on the couch covered by a large towel. The therapist will use a variety of techniques on the areas identified as overworked and tight in order to ‘unlock’ the muscles. These techniques include effleurage, deep frictions and trigger point therapy.
What conditions can Sports Massage help?
SRM has been shown to help treat and manage the following conditions:
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- Sciatica & General Back Pain
- Muscle Tears & Myofascial Pain
- Muscle Imbalances
- Thoracic Outlet Syndrome
- Reduces Risk of Heart Disease
