Kate is a clinical and holistic aromatherapist and has a background in a range of massage techniques including lymphatic drainage massage and deep tissue massage. She is passionate about working on a deeper level with the body to achieve your treatment goals.
“When I first studied aromatherapy, I was fascinated by the chemistry and botany behind it and after nearly 10 years of working with essential oils, they continue to surprise and amaze me. To have access to essences produced by plants for their own benefit that also benefit us on so many levels is amazing. Humans discovered these benefits very early on, with uses documented as far back as the time of Ancient Egypt in the Egyptians’ hieroglyphic writing.
In the 19th Century, orthodox medicine emerged with its special relationship to the laboratory where the beneficial chemical components in plants were explored and replicated. But in doing this, all the other qualities that aromatherapy has to offer are lost – because essential oils help not just on the physical level, but on an emotional and mental level too.
For example, frankinsence (boswellia carterii) is wound healing and therefore great for use on sore muscles, scar tissue and reducing the signs of aging. It can also help prevent and relieve sinusitis. But on an emotional and mental level, it is uplifting and calming, and mind clearing, allowing the mind to take time out and refocus and concentrate.
Another incredible fact athat I love about aromatherapy is that the sense of smell and memory are closely linked. When the body experiences the calming or energising effects of a certain essential oil or blend, it ‘remembers’ and therefore the effect can become immediate.
To manage stress, reduce muscular pain and tension, or help with a particular condition, aromatherapy combined with a lighter lymphatic drainage massage or deep tissue massage could be your answer!”
