There’s possibly never been a year in our memories that so many people were as happy to see the end of as 2020. It certainly took it’s toll on many of us. So far, 2021 hasn’t been the fresh start many of us are used to in January with lockdown still creating so many restrictions but here are our suggestions to help you boost your wellbeing and make new beginnings in these challenging times.
Focusing on the positives such as quality time with family, slower pace of life and seeing how much stronger this last year has made us is a good place to start. The Danish practice of Hygge fully embraces this. The Danes spend a lot of time a home in the cold weather and the practice of Hygge is reckoned to be one of the reasons Denmark is the happiest country in the world in spite of that. Hygge is all about focusing on making things cosy, charming and special. Enjoying the moment and making your surroundings special. Now is a perfect time to focus on making your immediate surroundings as comfy and cosy as possible to get the most enjoyment out of them.
There’s plenty of other wonderful things to try that can improve your mood and wellbeing available too. Now is a great time to try something new and see where it takes you.
If you are wanting to take up a new hobby or to try something new, why not give yoga, forest bathing, mindful photography or a sound bath a try? All of these wonderfully uplifting pastimes are now available through online sessions.
Yoga with Alison from Complete Yoga Newbury is now available on zoom from the comfort of your own home. You can do gentle yoga or seated yoga which is fantastic for beginners or those with limited mobility or she also runs a Kundalini yoga class via zoom perfect for aspiring yogis.
Sound baths and sound healing are available online with Heather. One-to-one sound healing gives you the opportunity to experience a different kind of spritual healing – clearing energetic blocks and balancing chakras through sound. Sound baths are regularly available as events helping you get into a deep relaxation.
Forest bathing with Sonya from Adore Your Outdoors is a great way to improve your connection to nature which help gives you a sense of belonging and reduces stress. It’s a perfect activity to start at the moment as walks outside are one of the few activities still available outside our homes.
Mindful Photography – Photography is a great hobby to try your had at and with this amazing new course from Adore Your Outdoors you can get the most out of it for your wellbeing too. It’s mindfulness, mediation and photography all in one.
If you are finding it a struggle to focus on the good things or try something new then maybe this is a good time for you to do some personal delvelopment work and healing. Meditation, coaching, mindfulness, EFT, acupuncture and distance or angelic healing all offer great opportunities to work on yourself, provide emotional/physical healing and help you have bit more control over your reactions to a bad situation.
Mindfulness courses are a brilliant way to help you recalibrate and shift your perspective. It’s been proven in scientific trials to reduce stress, pain, anxiety, irritability, exhaustion and burnout. Taught by Caroline there is a course starting on 27th Jan
EFT with Jo is a great way to work on your limiting beliefs or help you shift perspectives. EFT works on the subconcious in a similar way to hypnotherapy but instead of hypnosis it uses tapping and visualsations focusing on emotions. This is a really useful talking therapy as once you’ve learnt it you can do it on yourself anytime, anywhere, which makes it a great way to treat PTSD, anxiety, panic attacks and depression. The visualisation aspect also means it’s a great way to help heal from trauma as it means you don’t have to go over traumatic details unless you want to.
Acupuncture with Kim helps all kinds of physical issues but can also help with stress and anxiety too. Kim specialises in women’s health and runs a live session every Monday from her Facebook page so you can ask everything you ever wanted to know about menopause.
Distance healing – Bowen, reiki and angelic reiki with Mike can be done via distance healing very effectively. Perfect for helping healing, shifting energy blockages and feeling more relaxed. Mike is also running some interesting courses in healing with chakras throughout February.
If you’re pregnant right now there has never been a better time to try hypnobirthing. There is so much more to think about if you are pregnant right now which can cause some anxiousness. Hypnobirthing is a great way to help you have a more relaxing and enjoyable pregnancy as well as a better birth experience – whatever the day throws your way.
