Fed up of your abdominal scarring? Unable to lose weight from your middle no matter how hard you try? Is your tummy affecting your confidence? Is it causing other problems like discomfort, digestion issues or posture problems?
Unfortunately this can be all too common. Scar tissue and muscle separation can cause pain, numbness, severe posture problems, incontinence, decreased fertility, increased chance of placenta previa, increased chance of cysts, poor digestion, bloating, weight gain, trouble loosing weight especially around abdomen and discomfort. It can be especially problematic if you have a c-section scar as they have to be so much larger than other surgical incisions to make space for the baby.
But you don’t have to live with it.
Massage helps break down scar tissue by pulling apart and separating the fused tissue cells from each other. It also boosts the circulation allowing for improved blood flow and the bound up fat to be released. The results are amazing – just see the pictures.
There’s plenty of studies to show how good massage is for scar tissue…
Effect of soft tissue mobilization techniques on adhesion-related pain and function in the abdomen: A systematic review – “All of [The participants] reported a decrease in [scar and abdominal] pain after treatment. Two studies looked at quality of life and function and both saw objective improvements following abdominal adhesion treatment. Collectively, there were also improvements seen in scar mobility, infertility, posture, a reduction in medication, increased pressure tolerance and decreased postoperative ileus.”
Evidence-Based Scar Management: How to Improve Results with Technique and Technology – “For the treatment of existing hypertrophic scars, silicone, pulsed-dye laser, CO2 laser, corticosteroids, 5-fluorouracil, bleomycin, and scar massage have high efficacy…”
Scar massage for hypertrophic burns scarring-A systematic review – “…evidence to suggest that scar massage may be effective to decrease scar height, vascularity, pliability, pain, pruritus and depression… “
But despite all this good research not many people know how beneficial it is and even less know how to do it.
This workshop aims to solve that problem. An informative workshop with abdominal massage therapist Jo Medhurst who has nearly 10 years of experience massaging scars. You’ll learn the self help scar massage and how it works with practical tips and advice as well as hands on practice and one to one time to make sure you’re completely comfortable doing this on yourself at home.
The workshop also looks at abdominal muscle separation (Diastasis Recti) showing you how to check for it and importantly how to heal it yourself without the need for surgery.
Scarring and muscle separation are major obstacles in getting the tummy you love and can cause further health problems but with this workshop you can get the skills and information you need to see a real difference and be healthier too.
