Improve your overall hearing health
The build-up of ear wax can cause problems with the level of your hearing but you may also be suffering from blocked sinuses, itchy ears, or a general feeling of a muffled head, vertigo or even tinnitus.
If you visit your GP, he/she may recommend ear syringing where warm water is pumped into your ears and plugs of ear wax will be flushed out. Some GP practices no longer offer ear syringing due to cutbacks but it is also considered to be quite invasive.
Ear Candling is a gentle alternative treatment to syringing and is an ancient therapy dating back hundreds of years. The peoples of the Siberian prairies, Asia and native North and South American Indians mention ear candles in their myths, with ancient rock paintings showing ear candles being used at initiation rituals and medicinal ceremonies.
Ear Candling is a soothing and relaxing treatment which works on a much deeper level. The procedure not only removes excessive wax but, through the chimney effect, cleanses the sinuses and improves the flow of energy to the ears and can help with general head congestion and headaches.
Music is often played whilst the treatment takes place and essential oils, such as eucalyptus or lavender, are burned to create a lovely atmosphere in the treatment room. The candle is a hollow tube about 22cm long with a filter at one end and is made of linen impregnated with the scent of honey, sage and camomile.
The candle is lit and held in place by the therapist whilst it burns down to the filter which takes about 10-12 minutes. The candle is then removed and the process is repeated on the other side. A facial massage is then offered which is very relaxing and aids with clearing the head, sinus drainage and leaves a recipient with a sense of calm and well-being.
At the end of the treatment, the candles are opened and the contents reviewed. Quite often there will be a visible amount of wax but, as the treatment works on a much deeper level, lack of wax does not mean the treatment has been ineffective. The recipient will still get a sense of being clear headed and relaxed.
As a therapist who practices Ear Candling, I only use BIOSUN candles which are the market leaders and have been producing hand-made ear candles from 100% natural ingredients in Germany for over 30 years.
Clients come to see me for a treatment of Ear Candling for a variety of reasons. It may be that they have had a cold and feel congested or it may be that their ears feel blocked from general build-up of wax brought about by regular flying or over-use of a mobile phone. Whatever the reason, the client always feels an improvement in their symptoms but sometimes, if the problem is particularly severe or persistent, more than one treatment will be necessary and some clients book in for a monthly treatment to maintain their symptoms.
