We have all heard of CFS/ME, but how much do we actually know about it? Unless you have or know someone with the illness, the answer is likely to be not very much.
And even if you do have CFS/ME, sadly your answer may still be not very much. CFS/ME is a very misunderstood illness, which many people believe you cannot recover from.
However, there is evidence (and plenty of personal recovery stories) which suggest that that is not the case. Join us for this series of workshops to find out more about what CFS/ME actually is and how you can start regaining your health.

The number of people suffering from CFS/ME is increasing exponentially year on year as our lives are becoming more and more frantic. Currently around 125,000 people in the UK have been diagnosed as living with CFS/ME and that figure is steadily increasing. Around 14,000 people are diagnosed with the condition each year. However, these figures are likely to significantly underestimate the number of people who are actually living with the condition as so many people remain under the radar and officially undiagnosed.
Despite the number of people living with the condition, it is still very misunderstood. It is commonly considered to be a disease of the mind, sometimes even being coined as ‘yuppy flu’. However, the reality is completed different. Yes, people who have it are constantly fatigued, but that fatigue is not a figment of their imagination or a usual tiredness. CFS/ME is real and is totally debilitating. At its worst it can lead to people becoming house or even bed bound for years.
In the medical world, the condition remains highly contentious. There is no officially recognised causes and, as yet, no one drug or method which can ‘cure’ those with it. However, there is a greater understanding of the condition out there and there are recognised ways for those with CFS/ME to regain their health, vitality and energy.
In this series of workshops, we will explore that greater understanding and look at what CFS/ME actually is, how it affects people and how you can start to regain your health. We will also cover: –
- the typical causes of CFS/ME, with the aim of breaking them down to help you understand why you or someone you know may have got the illness. We will explore how understanding this can help you start working your way towards regaining your health;
- the role of stress and anxiety in exacerbating CFS/ME and how you can start to relax and reduce the impact stress and anxiety have on your life;
- the importance of balance and what a balanced life looks like;
- some real recovery stories – to (hopefully!) inspire you to believe that recovery is possible;
- the importance of sleep and how to improve your sleep patterns;
- tips to help those either caring for people with CFS/ME or working professionally with those with CFS/ME;
- and much more!

Unravelling Chronic Fatigue (CFS) & M.E

In this workshop we will explore what CFS/ME is, from both the traditional medical view and a more holistic standpoint. We will also look at how it affects the body, why it manifests (including why it manifests so differently in so many people) and give you some tips to help you start working towards regaining your health.
Going deeper – the power of knowledge
Saturday 20th October 2018 2-4pm
In this workshop we will be exploring in more depth the causes of CFS/ME to help you build up a better understanding of why you may have got the illness. We will then explore how this knowledge can help you start working your way back to health.
How to get into a healing state
Saturday 24th November 2018 2-4pm
In this workshop we will explore the role stress and anxiety play in exacerbating CFS/ME and how you can get yourself into a healing state. We will also explore the importance of sleep and how to improve your sleep patterns.

About Laura Mary Buchanan
Laura is a Psychologist, Researcher, and Meditation Teacher. She has a Masters Degree in Psychological Studies and has been researching the role of Self Development in the recovery process from Chronic Fatigue. She is a registered teacher with the British School of Meditation. She is currently working towards a diploma in NLP, EFT, Life Coaching and Hypnotherapy.
She also runs a support group for Chronic Fatigue, ME and Fibromyalgia.
