Autumn Open Day
Thanks to everyone who came along to, talked about and supported our Open Day. It was lovely to see so many people coming through the doors and floating back out again after trying out some relaxing therapies. We made lots of new friends, received some fantastic testimonials (see below) and raised £175 for the British Heart Foundation.
Our Autumn Open Day focused on how we can improve heart health and so we teamed up with the British Heart Foundation and themed some of our talks along these lines. Some of the main causes for Heart Disease include smoking, weight gain, stress and anxiety. Over the years, our therapists and practitioners have successfully helped many people quit smoking, lose weight and manage stress and anxiety using a variety of complementary therapies, yoga and meditation. We had mini-workshops (so much more than simply talks!) on Reiki, EFT, Osteopathy, Hypnotherapy, Kinesiology, NLP4Kids, Yoga, Wu Tao Dance and Carolyn Sykes helped us end the day on a high with a super calming and refocusing meditation.
Taster sessions were available from Niki Baggs (Reiki), Carolyn Sykes (Holistic Massage), Sunaree Isham (Thai Foot Massage), Vida Mankuviene & Eileen Bose (Acupuncture), Ros Kitson (Kinesiology) and our newest member of the team, Jason Redding (Chinese Massage).

The £200 Feelgood Factor
As the Newbury Weekly News put it in their article about our Open Day, we raised almost £200 for the BHF by selling prize draw raffle tickets along with a percentage of sales of the taster sessions, drinks, and purchases from our new ‘little shop’ featuring a range of herbal teas, natural food-state nutritional supplements from Nature’s Sunshine and a selection of organic personal care products.
The star prize in our Prize Draw was donated by Adrian Worger of WPA Health Insurance – a year’s NHS Top-up Cashback plan. All other prizes were kindly donated by members of The Wellbeing Centre team and included vouchers for a full Allergy Testing from Cathy Foley of OptiHealth UK, a choice of massages with Henna Hibberd, an hour’s Thai Foot Massage session with Sunaree Isham, a Reiki session with Niki Baggs, a choice of either Alexander Technique or Craniosacral Therapy with Anne Lammar, an Indian Head Massage with Jo Medhurst, a hypnotherapy relaxation session with AnneMarie Smellie and Pain Relief Care Pack from our new chiropractor, Rosemary Piercy.
Congratulations to all of you who won a prize and thanks to everyone who bought tickets! The vital funds you helped raise by doing so will help the BHF in their efforts to beat heart disease for good. Local fundraising manager for BHF, Alison Rosier, said: “We’d like to thank Claire Bushell and the team at The Wellbeing Centre for organising such a fantastic event. The BHF can only continue its life-saving and life-changing work thanks to money raised from events like this.”
