Leah McGrath of YogaBellies runs YogaBellies Mum and Baby Yoga classes at The Wellbeing Centre. The groups are deliberately kept small so booking is essential.
PLEASE NOTE, THESE CLASSES ARE NOT RUNNING AT THE MOMENT DUE TO LEAH BEING ON MATERNITY LEAVE.
The body undergoes huge change during pregnancy and childbirth. Postnatal yoga focuses on bringing structural integrity back to your body, helping to realign the spine and pelvis. Common problems such as back pain are relieved, and you will also learn breath awareness and relaxation techniques, which help to increase energy levels.
Yoga provides a wonderful resource for you and your baby that allows you to deal positively with stress, and encourage mindful relaxation in your role as a mother and to help gently tone the body back to its former glory! The classes are open to all levels of practitioner – they are non-scary, non-threatening and welcoming!
Our unique YogaBellies for Mum & Baby classes last around an hour and involve yoga for mum, yoga for baby and some lovely deep relaxation together. Our Mum and Baby Yoga classes include yoga postures for mum AND for baby; this is not just ‘baby yoga.’ All of the postures can be practised with or without your baby, depending on how you prefer to focus. Sometimes the class is quiet and sometimes there is crying. Sometimes the babies are full of fun and sometimes they want to snuggle up to mum and feed. Sometimes the mums are exhausted and sometimes they’re full of beans. But there are always appropriate practices for each pair. For all ages, the class has a co-operative spirit of ‘give and take’, alternating yoga for babies, with yoga for mums and yoga together.
The course costs £50 for a block of 6 classes. This is a rolling block of six classes meaning that you can start at anytime at least 6 weeks after the birth (we recommend 8-10 weeks following a caesarean section). I deliberately keep the classes small in size so booking is essential. The cost of your course includes a YogaBellies New Mum Pack, customized for the class you are attending including a tote bag, CD, handouts, discounts and local information.
Leah is a mum herself with a 3 year old little girl and lives in the Newbury area. She grew up in a large family surrounded by pregnancy, babies and children “My nan has 17 great grand-children!”. She spent the last 10 years working in training and HR and has always found huge satisfaction in nurturing others to reach their full potential. She has also practiced yoga for about 7 years, particularly since her pregnancy, as a way of maintaining a positive and relaxed outlook during times of stress. At the beginning of 2013 she decided to take the plunge and bring her passions for supporting others together with her keen interest for all things birth, baby and children and enthusiasm for Yoga to train with YogaBellies so that she can help Mums-to-be and new Mums during this special time in their life.
“I strongly believe that other women are a powerful support network, particularly when you become a new mum yourself. Attending YogaBellies classes will not only help you on your own journey of self awareness and relaxation, but it will support you in all the newness and uncertainty that comes with being a new mum. I know from personal experience that this will also be the beginning of some wonderful new friendships!”
